The world’s most famous love story comes to operatic life with superstars Anna Netrebko and Roberto Alagna playing the star-crossed young couple. The abandon and ardor of their performances brought audiences to their feet in both the opera house and in movie theaters. Charles Mackerras teases the romantic beauty from Gounod's score, which has been widely admired since its first performance at the Théâtre Lyrique, Paris, in 1867. In this 1994 recording, the youthful Roberto Alagna as Roméo and Leontina Vaduva as the unattainable Juliette lead an excellent cast in this touching portrayal of impossible love, based on Shakespeare's play.

A towering biblical epic, Saint-Saëns’s operatic take on the story of Samson and Delilah has many of the hallmarks of grand opera—show-stopping vocal displays, thrilling choruses, and an engrossing plot set against a sweeping, pseudo-historical backdrop. It’s fitting, then, that Samson et Dalila has been chosen to celebrate the opening of the Met’s season four times in the company’s history, including when Darko Tresnjak’s bold new production premiered on the first night of the 2018–19 season. A few weeks later, the opera was shown as part of the Met’s series of live cinema transmissions, featuring an exceptional cast. Tenor Roberto Alagna was the heroic Samson, who ultimately falls victim to the seductive power of Dalila—the captivating mezzo-soprano Elīna Garanča. Bass-baritone Laurent Naouri sang the sinister High Priest of Dagon, with conductor Sir Mark Elder on the podium.

Tilen (18), an attractive high school student, swears to be faithful forever in the hope that his girlfriend will let him sleep with her. Suddenly, a sequence of tragic events turns his world upside down. He starts to believe he is under a spell which could put his life in jeopardy, which prevents him from having a relationship with Sara (18), his one true love. He finally succeeds to get his life back on the right track with the help of his best friend Zeljko, a mysterious fortune-teller, and the power of love.

Wagner's Dream-the documentary highlighting the creative process and technical aspects involved in realizing Robert LePage’s production of the MET's newest staging of Wagner's ring cycle is highly enjoyable and provides the viewer with much fascinating information about how this production evolved from nascent ideas to brilliant performances. Most opera lovers had to be intrigued by the amazing hybridization of animation and the technologically complex use of "The Machine" to make these operas come alive with astonishing sets that are true to Wagner's intentions for his monumental ring cycle. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of this video and wished there was another hour or two (like a Wagnerian opera!).
